Within the GLOBE Student Climate Research Campaign GLOBE students can work together with scientist Elise Hendriks at the KNMI in the Netherlands to better understand the influence of aerosols on the climate.
Start: 16th of March 2012
End: 13th of June 2012
On the 16th of March there will be a meeting at the KNMI for Dutch students to start the campaign. At this date there will also be a introduction video of Elise online that explains more about the aerols campaign.
Aerosols are small particles in the air that have a big (but not so well understood) influence on climate. The OMI intstrument on the Aura satellite monitors the amount of aerosols in the atmosphere and GLOBE students can help vallidate the data of the satellite from the ground. This is called ground truthing. In the past the help of GLOBE students has helped scientists at the KNMI write a scientific paper in the Journal of Geophysical Research.
GLOBE Aerosols Scientist
At the beginning of 2012 Elise Hendriks has started as the new GLOBE aerosol scientist for the KNMI (Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute) in the Netherlands.
