Introduction
12 schools from 9 different countries in Europe have been funded by the EU Comenius fund to work on the GLOBE Student Climate Research Campaign (SCRC). One of their goals is to inspire other schools across Europe to also participate in the SCRC.
First Comenius meetings
The first two meetings have now occured in Hungary and Croatia:
Aerosols and earth observation groupSlavonski Brod, Croatia | 19 - 25 November 2011 Participating schools |
Phenology groupBudapest, Hungary | 21 - 24 November 2011 Participating schools |
Report from Dutch teacher Ton Reckman from the Aerosols groupI was present with 4 pupils age 15-17 and a colleague. Unfortunately it was cold for the entire week, so we couldn't do real aerosol measurements. On the other hand we had time for a lot of discussions about the protocols, ins and outs of measuring, comparing of results and satellite observations. De partner school from Croatia did a great job and around 3 Croation students where closely involved with the international meeting all week. One morning we had a Skype discussion with the other group in Szolnok to talk about our project logo and make agreements about the joint meeting we organize at the end of September in the Netherlands. During the week schools presented their projects, climate scientists from a.o. Zagreb gave an update about state of the art climate science, especially concerning aerosols. We also had some cultural activities and visited Osijek and a nature conservation area close to the Donau and the Drava where we made a boat tour at -2°C. Of course we had enough party time to get to know each other. All teachers and pupils from both meetings (Hungary and Croatia) got home safely and enthousiastically, full of energy to work for another 2 years on this Comenius project and the SCRC! |
